Nurture

March - June 2025
Woodend Gallery, Scarborough

Curated by Crescent Arts, Nurture showed the art of mothers who had not previously had the opportunity to display work due to their caregiving duties. The exhibition was developed to accompany the Feeding Chair, as part of its UK tour, alongside the Floor Flag, an artwork developed by design researcher Sally Sutherland in response to conversations with infant feeding activists, and a soundscape by poet Charlotte Oliver, co-created with Scarborough’s community during workshops last November.

The exhibition was accompanied by a programme of creative workshops and film screenings, including poetry workshops with Charlotte Oliver, ‘Make a flag-Take a Flag’ workshop with textile artist Hayley Mills-Style and the premiere of Milk Report the Film as part of Scarborough Film Festival.

Nurture featured work by artists Alia Gargum, Charlotte Warne Thomas, Christine Benson, Ella Calvert, Frankie Cluney, Hairy Triangle, Hayley Gibbs, Jacqui Barrowcliffe, Jade E Gilbert, Jen Workman, Joanna Jowett, Kübra Müjde, Laura Fooks, Leah Stewart, Nicola Garvey, Rebecca Riley, Rebecca Snow, Rhiannon Lewando, Jessica Finch and Sylwia Ciszewska-Peciak.
